  • V-Ray 5: What does it cost?

    Hey guys,
I am surprised a little that 5 was actually released today. I am a bit baffled, so I hope you can help me: What does it cost? Do we have to upgrade at all?

This reseller has pricing up - https://vray.us/vray-max
It's just not on chaos groups website yet. $590 to go from perpetual next -> perpetual 5.

Half the price of new to upgrade from next to 5 seems about on par.
Hopefully chaos group are working on a discount calculator to encourage bulk upgrades. we have something like 15 next licenses and 60 render nodes shared between 2 offices.

This is the first year of online licenses for our vray next licenses. So next to the cost I' also wonder if we'll be able to upgrade through Chaosgroup's website and yeah what the bulk options will be.
      Cheers,
      Oliver

4 licenses here and 15 render nodes. A bulk upgrade discount would be nice.

I don't see an upgrade option either, but we will probably trade what we have for the new collection licensing that include phoenix and VRscans

I think we should be able to upgrade through Chaos's website directly whenever they figure this out.

Might be a stupid question, but the fact that it's available in my download section doesn't mean it's free, does it?

No, that doesn't mean it. I suspected it first but it doesn't work.

Bobby - thanks for ordering. We're studying V-Ray 5 closely now, what a fantastic new release! I'm focusing on VFB2 first, which is my favorite new feature. Call us anytime if you have any questions.

Upgrade pricing always seems to be hard to find on the website - please Chaos, please can you make this side of things *really* easy for us.

(I found a 'flick switch' on the site yesterday to go from New to Upgrade pricing, but can't find it now, and couldn't see it on my iPad either....)

For upgrade pricing, you have to sign in to your account, go under my products, and find the product you want to upgrade. Then select upgrade, then you see the price. I think this requires that you have online licenses because a friend of mine told me he couldn't see any of his products when logged in. I think he was still using the old dongle.

I don't understand why Chaosgroup doesn't just show you the upgrade pricing on the same page where you can buy new licenses. It is confusing.
I was also confused because my download section gives me downloads for software I don't have licenses for, so when I first downloaded Phoenix FD 4 I thought it was a free update, and I didn't realize it wasn't until after I installed it and tried using it.

Man, I've just found that out too (regarding Phoenix....)

                            What a pain!

                            That's not good Chaos

And I totally agree with Markus - it's really confusing having software in our download's section which we don't have licence for.

                            Makes NO sense AT ALL.
