Upgrade costs for Vray 5 / increase in the last 6 years

Anyway facts are facts. We had such hard days for covid. Every software house did some helps/discounts. I bought 4 upgrades to next4(+2000 euros) and after 2 WEEKS they ask me other +2000 euro for Next5 ( that I thought it would come out at the end of the year or in 2021 and not after 20 days of beta).I't not Vlado, it's Peter that want an Autodesk-like product. it is the first time in my career that I think to switch to another rendering engine. Not for the price but also for the direction they choose to follow.

Do I need to buy render node licenses too if I work with Backburner alone? I have three systems in total.
Please advise.

No , they give only for an annual subscription and not for Upgrade! that's why I'm so disappointed. they give discount for 1-year license client and not for perpetual ( I'm a client since long time ago)

The cost definitely are a concern, primarily for render nodes.

there is as lot of competition out there for renders now. So we are likely to see a drop in costs as people migrate to other less expensive alternatives.

Sometimes companies raise prices to compensate for lower sales, which never works. Half the sales, just double the price .

I am not sure what you expected to be honest. I am sure their decision is based on data they have got over the years and current market. Nobody wants to pay more, but this is their business and we have to adopt to it or look for other solutions. If the sale is lower than expection then we might see some discount in future, but not based on this discussion. At the other hand something has changed in the way Chaosgroup treat the customers recently, for example they gave only a week or two notice about upgrading from vray 3 to 4, that the latest point release of vray next does not support all 3ds max version that initial vray next support. That is disappointing and not "Vlado" move.

Well, i have tried since 2 weeks to get information about upgrade prices from Next perpetual to vraycollection (with 5 render nodes) through my local resseler and by contacting directly the sales department, i haven't been able to get a precise answer (even any at all from chaos ?...).
I think there is probably something wrong in the way all of this is dealt with !

Two weeks ago I upgraded from 3.6 to next4 ( 4 licences+2 nodes...more or less 2000 euro). Now I have to pay other + 2000 to upgrade from next4 to next5 after 3 weeks. I don't know why a free upgrade or a grace period? Ok lightmixer( who here uses lightmix?) or material library...but now it's a more or less a 4.5.
More than 4000 euros for an upgrade is too much. I know that they want to force people to switch to a subscription but I think they also have to help old users that buy "always" perpetual since the beginning.

I understand your point having to pay for two uprades, in order to get to the V-Ray 5 version. However, you cannot skip a version upgrading your licenses. You need to first upgrade your V-Ray 3 to V-Ray Next, and then, whenever you decide to move to V-Ray 5 - to upgrade from V-Ray Next to V-Ray 5. You cannot get from V-Ray 3 to V-Ray 5 with only one upgrade (because this is two versions difference).
