They have this function in V-Ray for Sketchup for each material in the material editor - a checkbox for "can be overridden"
But, I can not find this switch in the max V-Ray Material. It would be useful when you want to keep glass looking like glass in a "clay" style rendering.
Yeah for glass it would be awesome, but there's also a millon and 1 other uses.
Forest and Railclone for example typically has multisub materials and you cant split the geometry to different layers. In such cases it would be great if we can exclude a single material (or list of materials) inside the multisub for example
