  • How to force usage of software denoiser on specific PC?

    Hello,

we have some very CPU potent farm render machines with very cheap placeholder GPUs (Nvidia 7xx series). Vray Next is keeping using the GPUs for denoising which wastes a lot of time. Using the 32 CPU cores takes 1-3 seconds for denoising, the GPU uses up to 30 seconds. Why is Vray using such garbage GPUs for denoising and how can we force it to always CPU on these machines? Don't want to uncheck the denoise layer checkbox for hardware usage because we also have a lot of workstations with potent GPUs.

The "Hardware acceleration" checkbox does precisely this - with it disabled, the denoising will be computed on the CPU. If you wish to force CPU on a specific workstation, however, you may use the standalone denoiser tool. You can use the "-useCpu", "-useGpu" options in the command line to set the denoising engine (you may write a .bat file to automate it). All available denoiser commands are written in the technical documentation.

Can Vray at least stop supporting NVIDIA 600/700/900 series cards for denoising? I thought an update made it only work with Keplar and newer.

That is correct. NVidia 700 series cards are mainly with the Kepler architecture, though.
