  • Material Asset Browser missing bitmaps

    Hi all.
I'm having trouble with the Vray 5 Material Asset Browser in Max 2021 Update 1. In the attached image you 'll see that i've added my chosen material to the Material editior, but the bitmaps are black (i'm assuming it can't find them).
Anyone know how i can resolve this?

It was working for me a few days ago too.

    Thank you
    Andy

    umh, odd.
Have you tried running the matlib updater?

    it's in the Bin folder, f.e.: "C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max 2021\bin\mtllib.exe"

Hey Lele, thank you for the reply.
I've just tried it and have attached a pic. I tried again in Max but it hasn't made any difference.

The question then would be if the files are actually in the asset folder, as if they weren't then the updater should have downloaded them.
What's the max asset browser reporting?

It says the files are missing, i've attached a pic.

I think i know what the issue is now, but i'm not sure how to fix it. The path for the textures are defaulting to the active project as opposed to the directory the textures are installed at. In this case the path is relative, however when i make it absolute i can see it's looking at the project folder.

I can manually find the texture on my system. Any idea on how i can stop the texture directory deafulting to the active project directory?

Max's project selection WIPES the external files folder set on project creation/selection.
That includes the V-Ray Material Library folder we added to max on installation.
The simplest way to fix this is to re-add the path to the material library manually.
From the asset browser, choose the menu "Paths-> Configure Project Paths..."
Navigate to the tab named "External Files".
It ought to contain only one path: "\."
Click "Add...", browse to the material library root (not the assets one!), and select use path.
It should then look somewhat like in the attached picture.

Close the dialog, refresh the Asset tracker, files should be found again.

Thank you very much for reporting this, we have all we need to fix this, we'll now try to make it elegant and transparent to users.
