It is a 3ds max related case. Check Autodesk's provided solution here.

      Thanks hermit.crab.
That wasn't smart move from Autodesk. It lags even with simple vraycolor in diffuse slot only.

ok, I tried it, but it only works for the existing materials. And any new created is coming with this stupid feature on again.
Will report to Autodesk, but there is no hope.

hermit.crab here is a video showcasing the performance with this stupid fucntion on: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6cqllncduy...49-17.mp4?dl=0
I've reported it to Autodesk, and asking for your help as well, if you could push this from your side to Autodesk, because first thing what I thought that it was VRay related thing, and I'm sure many other users will think the same.

Changsoo Eun from facebook stack group provided a solution.
run this: setIniSetting (getMAXIniFile() ) "Materials" "DefaultMaterialViewportMode" "0"

it adds "Materials" section in 3dsmax.ini and set DefaultMaterialViewportMode as 0.
