Thanks for this - it inadvertently led me to using distance tex as material displacement for stitch holes, which although not perfect, works very well to add some detail.

That's what we ended up using too.

Hehe yeah it is a really good compromise and now that I've taken the test I did earlier and applied to the actual seats, the result is fantastic. Saves unwrapping the things, which is such a major bonus.
