  • Darker renders with new version of vray

Has anyone come across their renders turning out darker with the new version of vray? I have opened an old scene, and it doesn't render as nicely. I know about renders taking longer and i've sorted that out.

Can you be more specific as to Vray versions. there have been a lot of changes between different versions - from bug fixes to feature changes

Yeah - this was expected as some of the materials had been optimized in newer builds. People have noted that a few months back. Just makes sure to lower your samples on all of the mats from whatever they were to about 8 (which is the new default) for better render times.

          vray different versions

          from version 1.09.03n to 1.46.15

Here's another example. How do I fix this easily?

            Have you changed your gamma?

              different vray versions

I have had a look and both versions of files in max and have the enable gamma correction unticked inside the max preferences.
              Thanks

                Are you using color mapping?

Max's color mapping would be my guess too, although it doesn't look as extreme as the results I was gettting at first.

Hey there. No my exposure control is always turned off, and the color mapping hasn't changed either. I'm sure its just with the different versions of vray that is doing this.

I ended up having to go back to the old version as I had a deadline. I wonder what settings it has changed to do this.

well as for it rendering slower there are tonnes of posts on the forum about this and atleast one needs to be sticky for those going from 1.09x to 1.4x. bsically the most common being your QMC settings set to 50 for samples on secondary bounce and your glossies set to something high. those all need to be lowered. the default has been lowered to 8 now.

Hey there. Speed was never an issue and these were rendered at the lower qmc samples etc. The problem is the brightness of the images...
                              Thanks

I guess there is no known quick fix besides re-adjusting all the lighting.
