  • Glitter material anyone?

    Hello all,
    I'm trying to recreate the following glitter material:

    I know about the scholastic flakes but no matter what I've tried I cant get them to behave.
    I'd be grateful if anyone could light the way for me.

    Reading the comments, he made it with geometry, not stochastic flakes, hence the differences.

      Probably simple enough to do with particles but if you want a material then this is what I was thinking of https://www.artstation.com/artwork/nQ8yRE

      EDIT: Forest Pro works quite nicely.

        @lele,

        Thank you, yeah I red through the comments. Looking specifically for a material that can have a diffuse overlaid on top of it.

        @fixeighted,

        Thank you for the link and testing it out , it looks really good, but was hoping for a material that I can overlay a diffuse on top of it.

          I do not understand the request, i think.
          Couldn't you use a blend material for that?

            @Lele,

            Apologies should have been a bit more clear!

            I have a character whos skin needs to glitter. I have a diffuse map for the character's body, and it needs to overlay and react accordingly to his glittering skin.
            My conundrum is not being able to achieve this without completely destroying the original diffuse map.

            Id be grateful for any help in this!

              A blend material with a mask?
              You'd need maybe to find an example image to clarify that a bit more, as it's not really the same as the glitter on the dress, which is made of little discs.
              Do you perhaps mean glitter makeup?

                A blend material is indeed the way to do it.
                The only thing to change from its defaults is to use it in "additive mode".
                That's dangerous as you may end up breaking energy preservation and creating a material which emits more light than it receives, but it's fairly easily managed by reducing the flakes reflection filter color value (ideally, that value and the specular shouldn't, once summed, go above 1.0/255) and lowering flakes glossiness (as low as it can work for you.).
                Here's a *poor* example with an old digital Emily file i had lying around. I made the flakes colored, and few, to make sure they are visible.

                  Thank you all for looking into this I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

                  @ lele Thank you this is exactly what I'm looking for. Ill try it out and report back! Just to make sure, am I obliged to use a FastSSS2 as the base map or would a regular material work for this?

                    Hehe, good that you got what you needed.
                    And at least you also know how to make a nice sequinned ball gown...should you ever need one

                      You're very welcome.
                      Any shader will work as base, the key bit is the additive mode blend shader.
