  • VraycarpaintMtl2 - struggles

I'm not finding the carpaint2 shader that intuitive. I've made sure the scene scale is 1cm. The results I'm getting are ok but there is a lot of room for improvement. Problem is that I cannot seem to reduce the actual flake size effectively. If I do repeating patterns start appearing and I have to raise the fake map size to 8192 which really slows down rendering.

At the moment I get this result. The metal flakes seem way too big when the camera is close up and they don't seem to end on just the hi-lighted areas. I've increased the flake orientation tail falloff.

Any help or advice really appreciated.

I'm also hoping to add the small circular scratches to this shader as well.

    Regards

      Hi,

what you have to do usually is such a scenario is to reduce the scale. What was your approach?
We are adding a flake glossiness parameter soon which will also help a lot in such a scenario.

      Best regards,

Hi there. That's pretty much what I did. I decided to use a teapot to test things which helped. I think the lack of instant feedback was making it difficult to ascertain what was actually changing when I altered the values. It might be good to have the help docs updated with some example images/videos showing these values being changed. That way I think it would be easier to understand.
