is there a way to have the direct lights area shadows become difuse before they hit an object. mabey the area shadowas are phisicaly correct but I thought there would be a bit of light difusion.

I want to get slightly over-cast lighting, so the light is being dispersed as it goes through the atmosphere, clouds ect.

I've been playing around with HDRI and getting nice renders but I would like the shadows to be shaper, I haven't had a big look into that but Ive played around with irrad settings to get the shadows a bit sharper but I'm assuming I've reach the limit with that.

increase the light source size in the vray shadow parameters.

The farther away and larger the source - the more diffusion on the shadows.

what I mean is that the shadows are difused before they hit an object so that at the base of the object, were it hits the ground the shadows are blured(right at the base) because of the diffuse the light is being scattered by the atomsphere/clouds, at the moment I like the areas shadows but they are too sharp to start off with
