  • MtlWrapper Shadow Issue

I'm working on a scene where I'm comping a model into a drone video and using the MtlWrapper as my shadow catcher, pretty standard stuff. There is a median in the road and I figured I'd extrude a little bump out in my plane to get a more accurate shadow shape, however on the back face there isn't any shadow being produced. I've fiddled around with settings for about an hour without much luck, does anyone have a suggestion or different technique for something like this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Surely there is no/not much shadow cast by the building on that face...however,
you could maybe do a pass and untick 'no gi on other mattes' and then paint out the extraneous bits...could help

EDIT: actually yes that does of course help. I was looking at the clearly 'empty' bit of the alpha thinking that was the issue.
Turning off 'no gi...' gives you the shadowed shadow of the first kerb back onto the ground, so it does look better of course
Hopefully that is what you needed. Still have to paint out some bits.

I ended up modeling out that median separately, assigned the same wrapper material and deleted the faces that were my problem and that worked out.

Cool. The 'no gi on other mattes' thing does add to it though...interested to see your different result from before if you want to post it

Appreciate the advice, your method is definitely the correct way to go about this. I think I just got lucky with what I was trying to achieve and I wouldn't call this a proper workflow by any means. I attached a WIP screen of the results.
