  • progressive caustics

Ive not had a play yet, but i noted the "new features" video mentioned updated caustics, but stuck it right at the end and didnt "sell" it very hard.

Is this the famous brilliant corona caustics system ported over as promised? or a stopgap..? (or, is it the old "direct visualisation" trick we have had for years, with a button in the interface.. )

do we still need to fiddle around with radius and density settings to get a good result? does it still use huge buckets of ram for a decent result?

given the amount of time people have been banging on about better caustics in vray im suprised its not being shouted from the roof.

Hehe, I wonder why not. I imagine we are all customers and so should have access to that info which may be of universal use
Especially if we use nighly versions....

You can apply for that. I think you just need to send an email to support@chaosgroup.com.

                    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VMAX/Caustics

Just enable caustics, set it to progressive, and in case of VraySun for example enlarge your radius depending on the size of the object(s). No fiddling with other stuff. Of course no rendering in bucket mode.

It is based on the same tech with some room for improvement further down the road. We tested this on some scenes, for us it makes the workflow much easier!

Haha, well I could've also copied the manual, most of the answers were there, this was easier

                            The forum section is misnomered.
It's in fact equivalent to the old, private beta group in google.
It's not for open access, as those which are credited are expected to proactively test and feedback features, which is (very) time consuming, and can be frustrating.
The info distilled from that section have all been made cohesive, and added to the docs.

Poking at nightlies to check for features once they are in is definitely open, however.
