  • Not Visible Objects Showing Through Glass

I'm sure this is something simple I'm doing wrong.

Imagine a simple scene of a house sitting on a terrain. The house has windows and in the current view... you can see through the nearest window - thru the house - and out through the rear windows.

I am rendering a pass with only the house visible... but I want the reflections of the terrain to show on the outside of the house window glass so I have the pass setup with the terrain renderable but not visible to the camera. I get this result:

Name:	terrain_showing_thru_windows.jpg
Views:	1159
Size:	19.2 KB
ID:	1106083

It is showing the terrain on the other side of the house. (If I look at the alpha... the terrain on the other side of the house is properly not shown in the alpha). I have looked at the material settings for the glass but have not gotten the terrain to disappear.

Any ideas what setting I've got wrong so I can fix this?

    Thanks for any ideas!

    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

    Thanks!

      Hello Mike Truly

Have you tried to turn off the "Visible in Refractions" option in the V-Ray Object Properties window for the terrain?

Can you let us know if there is any difference? If you are still having trouble you can send us the scene so we can have a look on what is going on.

You can send us the scene through our contact form: https://www.chaosgroup.com/help/cont.../scene#options

Please note that we no longer support V-Ray 2 and V-Ray 3 and any files you send will be reviewed with V-Ray Next or V-Ray 5.

Thanks very much for the ideas!

Turning OFF the 'Visible in Refractions' in V-Ray Properties fixed the problem for the terrain object showing.

But that was a simplified scene. There is also a Forest Pack forest and V-Ray Fur grass in the scene. These objects don't show up in the V-Ray Properties dialog so I can't turn them OFF in refractions. If I turn OFF Visible to Reflection/Refraction in regular Object Properties... it works but I lose the trees and grass in reflections, which I want.

Any other way of turning them OFF only in refractions?

        Thanks again.
        Sincerely,

        Mike Truly

          Ahhh... nevermind.

The forest and grass objects were not showing up in the Vray Properties dialog for some reason, but now they are. So all is good.

          Thanks again.
          Sincerely,
