  • Please Vlado...could you answer these??

    Hello.
Please Vlado...I really need to know about this..
The first thing is about the RPF channels. Transparent surfaces don't seam to be exported well. Heres a link:
    http://new.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...hlight+channel

The other one is about facking translucency as in "translucent shader" or the "backlight" plugin. They don't work in VRay! Is there any chance something like this will be available in Vray?? I really think it is a "must"

    Thanks

I'll be looking at this later today...

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Vray can handle faked translucency by default. You don´t have so much option like in the translucent shader and it only works with slightly transparent surfaces.
For a little test just build a box.. place a sphere in front.. and add
a spotlight so that the sphere would make a shadow on the box (activate vrqay shadows). Now apply a standard material to the box and make it transparent (50% or something). Place a camera behind the box and render
You will see the box beeing lit on the backside and there is also a shadow
like the translucent shader would do.

Actually it would be great to have a little more options like in the max transl. shader to make translucy available for opaque objects as well.

          Thanks for the tip Samuel.
I have already played with those workarrounds but none of them worked efficiently.
Unfortunably I wanted to use the translucent shader in vegetation.
Using transparent material in leaves would raise the render times a lot and I also think that leaves would have to have thickness.
          Thanks anyway

Any news about the above bug Vlado??

At first sight there is nothing wrong with the V-Ray G-Buffer, but I'll try to look at it in combustion to see if I can reproduce your result.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

It looks like there may be problems in combustion with transparent objects, but I have to look at this in more depth.

              Best regards,

                Please don't forget this Vlado
I'll be needing to do some compositing soon and I'm afraid this issue will be very annoying
                Thanks

The Chaos guys are at Siggraph, so I wouldn't expect an answer until after Siggraph is over. I suspect they are very busy at the moment.

Yep, traffic looked pretty steady at their booth. A lot of Maya renders going on there
