  • Any way to convert vrmat files to a vray material

I know there is a way to export materials to vrmat files, but is there a way to import a vrmat material as a vray material.
I know about the vraymat loader material, that's not what I'm asking.

Sorry to say, there isn't a way to do this. Recreating them may be your best option.

Strange, I'm just wondering how does Cosmos import assets then, seems like the only assets provided are vrmesh, vrmat and tx files.
When the asset is imported, its a vray material, so somehow it must convert the vrmat to an actual usable material.
Maybe there is something else but to me that's what it looks like.

Hi, the Cosmos ones are restricted as feature set and are specifically tuned to import correctly. So they import as native, but it's relatively basic importer and that's why it's not available for general usage.

          Thanks Alexander,
are the cosmos importer functions exposed in maxscript somehow.
Basically we have our own asset manager and would like to add those cosmos models to it, unfortunately we would need to convert those to .max format first to be able to do that.
While I can just load the vrmat material and assign it to the proxy object, i would rather have the vray material.
We are just trying to centralize all the different asset libraries that come with all the software, between vray, itoo, vizpark, etc, there are a bunch of asset managers that are just a headache to deal with.

            Best regards,
