  • Vray Sun subdivision

    Hi

I recently upgradet from Vray 3 to 5, and now the VraySun don't have subdivision. I can only find it in the render setup under "bucket image sampler" but that effects all in the scene. I miss that I can set the quality of the shadows from the sun/light

Or am I missing the place where I can set the subdivision for the sun/light only ????

You no longer need to set up subdivisions per-material or light.
It's probably better for you to make a copy of that file, reset all of the vray settings, set the bucket sampler to 1,6 noise threshold to .01 in both bucket and global dmc, then work out from there. If you try to modify old settings you might have something getting in the way of the new intended approach.
That'll get you a quick but rough looking image and you can raise AA / lower noise threshold from there on out. This should give you a more consistent level of noise across the whole image instead of just in this reflection or just in the sun etc.

We tend to keep noise threshold higher these days as it's more important to use higher AA to clean up speckles and post production AI/neat vision to clean up general scene wide noise.

Hmm set the bucket sampler to 1,6... There is Min subdivs and there is Max subdivs... Where do you set the 1,6 ?? For a fine image, I had to set the min sub to around 12 witch toke long to render, and before I could just set the sub divs on a specific material a bit higher, and then get a ok fast render...

reset to default settings and use just noise threshold to get render times you need. it will be a bit higher than in VRay3.

1, 6 is min, max. Needing 12 in the minimum means your settings are kind of screwed up somewhere, reset them and go from there.
