  • What went wrong here?

Hope this is the right place to post my mystical error. I am rendering a section in a building and the deck gets som weird triangles:

What can I do to correct this error? I've checked my cad file and there is just 1 solid......

Make sure all the normals are pointing in the right direction, and that there are no overlapping triangles.

    Best regards,

I've tried to apply the unify normals modifier - but nothing happens....

I've also checked my autocad file and all looks fine there. But it must be some of triangles that are wrong as you say. My problem is that it is quite large model with a lot of decks with these errors..... fixing them would tak e me hours. I just hoped that there was an easy way to fix the problem......or at least some secure way of avoiding it next time I create 3d models.

My guess would be that you have some doubled faces there.

If you are lucky you can use the "deletedoublefaces" script. (Do a search at scriptspot.com).

looks like a extrusion gone bad.

have you tried the secondary raya bias to 0.01 trick?

              Hi Dieter

Tried to download the script (cool website by the way!) - but it didn't help me.... Thanks for the tip anyway.

I found the secondary raya bias to 0.01 ! and it works perfect! Thanks a lot!

                (why did it work?)

You have coplanar faces. If you set the secondary ray bias above zero Vray starts tracing the secondary rays with a slight offset, so double faces do not shadow each other.

i still think you need to go back to that model and fix it though. the ray bias thing is a work around for co-planar faces .but it doesnt get rid of them
