  • 'simple' refraction for distant building glass

Just trying to find the most efficient way to render refractive windows in a situation when angular refraction won't be noticeable. Is there an equivalent to Corona's 'simple' refractions in Vray? (not sure if this feature still exists in Corona, I've not used it in a while). If I set refraction IOR to 1.0, would that be the same?

Also is it still true that a refractive material applied to an open geometry will be treated as infinite depth?

Thinking about it further, I've been usiing the OSL windowbox texture to good effect for low-res interiors, if this is going in the diffuse slot, I can probably do away with the refraction completely and have the glass reflection and the simulated refraction on the same material..... I was putting it on it's own plane previously, behind a plane of glass. Would still be good to know the answer to the above though.

    Maybe this post could help.

Thanks but I don't think so, I'm just talking about passing a ray directly through a material without any deviation. Would that speed up render time in even a minute way? As I understand it, that's what the Corona 'simple refractions' does.

Tick "Thin Walled", ensure "Affect Shadows" is ticked too (it is by default).
