  • Animation woes....

Ok - I've searched lots on here - also tried the Chaos help files (which are poor in this respect unless i've missed the relevant section) and i'm struggling with rendering fly through animations in latest Vray and Max.

I've read Lele saying stick everything to default and choose animation from the light cache - and simply render - BUT - this takes far too long to render even with a decent setup......

Is there any way to speed things up - I loved using the LC/IRR map precalculation 'fly through' workflow where we did the LC first (using the now removed fly through option) - then added the IR map using incremental with only every 10th frame or so required - I could have my fly through lighting solution rendered in minutes and it always worked beautifully - now i'm stuck with using the painstaking slow Brute Force solution and rendering the LC every frame?

Is there really NO way to quickly render the GI lighting solution for fly through (camera motion only) animation now with the latest version?

If there is a way - I would massively appreciate someone pointing me / linking me to it!

    Thanks.

This topic may provide clarity about why the fly-through option was removed. Otherwise, IM is still available and you can set it up for a quick GI solution.

Thanks Hermit - I had already seen that post - but very little useful info in it and no answers to my question really?

What is the workflow now for using IM for fly through animations - re do we need to render every frame / can we pre render it and only render every 10th frame etc / how does the LC need setting up etc?

I am very unclear on the specific workflow now that things have changed significantly.

What we recommend is using the current default GI solution. Currently, the IM/LC workflow and the plans for its the future are at a standstill. From conducted research and testing, made internally and externally (participating user groups), we concluded that the average render time of the current defaults (BF/LC) compared to the old-fashioned methodology (IM/LC) is approximately the same. Though swift, IM does not work well with Adaptive Lights and has an inherent possibility of flickering. Some scenes may indeed exhibit slower rendering times with BF/LC compared to IM/LC, however, the current approach has the benefit of eliminating the danger of incorrect lighting. The current approach also bypasses the need for countless optimization settings, making it secure and easier to work with.
