  • VrayColor primaries confusion

I just realized that VrayColor now also has a primaries drop down and I tried it out, however, there is a quite noticeable difference between using the primaries and making a manual conversion via an ocio node. I hope the image is self explaining...

    1) is having a vraycolor node with "none" primaries and an ocio conversion to acescg.
    2) is the vray color node with srgb primaries (which I assume is converted interally into acescg for rendering)

the two variants produce different colors as seen on the bottom right. From my understanding those two should be identical.
Can someone explain this difference to me?

Someone from Chaos around who could explain the difference?

Sorry for the lack of answer, we are investigating the matter. I'll write back with more information.

          Bump! Any news on that?
It would currently be a good time for us to change our aces scene management, between bigger jobs But I obviously don't want to do it while not knowing what's going on there exactly.

Can you tell me which OCIO configuration you are using? It will help me to track down the difference.

            Best regards,
            Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

I'm using the Aces 1.1 config, presumably from here: https://github.com/colour-science/Op...ces-1.1-config . But that's actually a good point. I will download 1.2 and see if that's maybe a bug they fixed.

Ok, I tried the 1.2 config from the same github repository and it did exactly the same. So you can also use the 1.2 config.
I've attached a scene file for max 2021, with both setups present in the material editor. Just to make sure it's not a setup mistake.
