Can V-Ray Next users open V-Ray 5 files?

Provided none of the new V-Ray 5 features are used, can users that are still using V-Ray Next open files using V-Ray 5?

I'm asking because I really want to upgrade my setup to V-Ray 5 but my biggest client who I collaborate and share files with is still using V-Ray Next. This client having potential issues opening my files is the only thing keeping me from upgrading right now.
