  • Resumable Rendering with Bucket not working

    Hello,

in Vray5 I'm now testing resumable rendering.
It renders fine only the first render, also writing a .vrimg file.

When I choose for the re-render a higher sampling (max subdivs 24 instead of 4), it loads, just gives a "warning" but no telling what the warning is and nothing happens, it finishes very fast without any change.
I tested multichannel EXR and EXR with separate elements, too.

    - Separate Renderelements were overwritten (message tells) at rerendering. And again nothing happens

    Hello,

You have to delete the .vrimg file in order to start a new render, otherwise it will say that the frame is already done and it won't re-render it.
The full warning should be in the log somewhere above, just scroll up.
Also re-rendering with higher sampling settings without starting over is supported only with progressive sampling. The bucket resuming can only render missing buckets, it can't add samples to the completed ones.

Okay, thanks, it means progressive works with all renderelements?
(bucket makes then no sense for me then, only as an insurance in case of computer shutdown for a longtime singleframe render)

I read that I must KEEP the .vrimg or .vrprog file, otherwise vray doesn't has the information how to start and will not proceed from where it left off:

"If V-Ray finds a .vrprog file or partially completed .vrimg file for the current frame, the rendering will resume from where it left off. If not, V-Ray will start a new render and a resumable file is saved."

      Thanks

Apart from VRayCryptomatte (which is fixed for the next update) and VRayRenderTime, yes.

Yes, .vrimg is used for resuming bucket renders, .vrprog for progressive. If V-Ray finds the file for the current frame it tries to resume from it, and if it's already completed it prints the warning and continues with the next frame (or just stops if there aren't more frames). If it doesn't find the file it starts a new render.
