  • Making an object transparent without seeing the other side.

I've been trying to trick this, that I would usually do in comp, but inside 3dsMax with Vray.

The idea is simple, make dissapear an object but doing it like if it was 1 layer, so no backside, no back faces transparency. Is this is possible to do?
I've been trying with transparency and hidding the backface, but elements behind objects keep appearing.
I've been thinking that I could use a Falloff in light/shadow mode to mask the "visible" side and delete the back side first, and then remove the front when needed.... but Max won't let me pick a light for that only calculation.

    * projected shadow problems wouldn't be an issue for this example either.

Any other Idea?! I'm doing this just for RnD but thought could be cool to have by hand.
I was thinking that this would better be done in OSL somehow? hummm.

well if anyone has an idea on how to do this. I'll apreciate the information!

somehow i could achieve the effect using a halftone osl map on the opacity..of course has the dotted look to it... I could make them supper small but I guess then Vray could choke with the sampling there on a huge scene right?
