  • Vray UVW Randomizer

hello. is it possible to use UVW Randomizer with a Vray Noise texture or something similar? I'm looking for a way to distort glass or metal panels on a building and have discontinuity of distortion between adjacent panes of glass or panels. thanks.

Yes! If you set the UVWrandomizer to Element ID, it should shift things around based on the individual glass or metal panels. Your best bet is to use a tiling normal map for this rather than a noise material. Throwing a simple Box-Unwrap on the model should suffice for the basic uv source, if you're not unwrapping things already.

thanks. well, i did not use an uwrap on it, but that might be my best approach b/c the glass or metal panel is modeled with thickness, .5inch thick. and sometimes i do a mat color on the back of the glass so it's spandrel glass.

the normal map does work the best

attached is a HUGELY exaggerated result. the left is the fully modeled metal panel with seams, all one object. the right is the faces detached as a separate signgle object.
