  • Command line rendering with 3dsMax?

    Hi there,

    - how is it possible in 3dsMax to render different files over night?

I know from Maya the process with a .bat file ("command line rendering"), is it similar in 3dsMax?

    - I heard also from a colleague, that it makes sense to export vray scenes and then to render them, in order to save time.
How much faster is that workflow?

    Many thanks

*) in the root of max, look for 3dsmaxcmd.exe
*) you can surely do that, but then you'll be rendering with standalone. Mileage will vary on what feature is supported (i.e. the same set of those renderable with our Cloud).

There are a few ways to render batch jobs in max, also directly from within the application: Rendering Menu -> Batch Rendering -> set up and export a bat file, and then proceed to edit that.

      Hello, same question here
      - So I understand from your answer that the batch rendering tool in 3dsMax could be used to export a .bat file.
And how do I proceed, to get different scenes rendered overnight? (not only different views from one scene)
Do I copy them all into one text file and doubleclick or is there more to do?

      - Which purpose has the "3dsmaxcmd.exe"? Just to know, that this exists doesn't help

      Thanks

Here's the autodesk help about it.
The bat file will have prepared the entries to run to render the selected scene states (not just cameras!) for the single scene.
It should be trivial to add more lines matching the rest of your scenes (i.e. changing the .max file path), and in case their states.
