  • env and effects global lighting affecting render

in the environment and effects of 3ds max 2022, it seems that global lighting > tint and level affects my rendered scene. if tint is black, then my vray plane lights (which are visible) become black or red or whatever tint color i assign.

    is this correct behavior?

I think so. That's a 3ds Max native option, which affects all lights in the scene (except ambient, which has its own control). White means no tint.

To specify, the color is multiplicative with the original one.

just the color right? meaning, if the tint is white and the other colors black, it won't contribute to light in the scene. i guess i know this since i turn off all my vray lights and it renders black. seems like i remember something a long time ago about confusion i had with viewport lighting and these settings. feels like i'm getting that confusion again ha!
