  • lights!

so if i understand this correctly, a scene can be lit by:

    1. a vray light
    2. a vray light that can use any mesh as the light
    3. a mesh that has a vrayLight material applied to it - GI only or with Direct Illumination turned on (it becomes a mesh light?)

if you want to get rid of jaggied edges on lights

    1. you can only use a vray light - non-mesh - with softbox map

softbox map only works on vray non-mesh lights

    thanks!

You may increase the Image Filter size (Render Setup>Image Filter>Size) and/or add slight Lens Effects to get rid of the jagged lights.

i'll give that a try thanks.

also when i was playing around with vraylight material with direct illumination turned on, it does not behave as direct illumination if the material is part of a multi-sub object.

Yes, it's a limitation already noted in the docs.
