  • Any tips for bettler looking stainless steel?

Hello, i tried many ways to render machines in vray. Base are cad files so perfect way to do this.
The surface is stainless steel, some parts are brushed, polished or satined. I have choosen the materials from the vray library, but it looks not even realistic, many parts are looking gray like painted.

Anyone got some tips how to make it better?

No matter if your material is perfect, if your environment is flat the reflection will be flat as well, you need to introduce some contrast elements in your scene like darker areas and some very bright areas.
Then you can start to work on your shaders, if you want you can try this stainless steel shader, you can download it for free from here: https://www.3dtutorialandbeyond.com/...y5metal3dsmax/

      bjoern_degroote Hello!

First step is finding a reference to this metal. If you have reference please post here, it will be easier for us to help.

For stainless steel, roughness and anisotropy will help. And GGX tail falloff
The material library is a good start, then you can adjust it for your needs
To make this product rendering appealing, lighting is key as well

      Best,

Thanks, for your help. Here you can see different type of materials in one machine.

I tried different materials. A point i noticed that all brushed textures are not visible. I changed the tiling but nothing to see, what i doing wrong? The files are in the right place, but i think the scale is not correct.

You mean the free material in the link?

I figured out that the scale of the project was not correct. instead 2m about 200m. So the textures wont show right.

Now there are new problems. Some parts of the machine looking very dark und and other very shiny. It looks unreal.

                  Hi bjoern_degroote

Did you check the normals of the this piece at the top?
I suppose you are using the same material for the entire object?

Is it possible to upload this piece of geometry? I will take a look at your setup
                      Thanks!
