Please help (win xp problem)

Hello all
My main computer - the one i save all the images from my render servers has win xp installed on.
I'm getting errors at my servers telling me that - " no more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can exept (0*47)"
I have only 9 render nodes.
Can somone please tell me how can i resolve this issue?
Should i install win 2003 server on that computer?

gilicom, its a known issue where default windows xp allows maximum of 10 connections to one server. So, to get more connections you can eather buy additional license for win xp to extend the connection limit, or you can instal linux on that server which accepts unlimited number of incoming/outgoing connections.

what do you meen buy additional license for win xp - I wanna do that , after i'll buy it what should i do then?
what about win 2003 server?

i think there was a tread about it a while ago, and a 'solution' to it as well try to search for it.

I think the detail for license extension will be provided to you by microsoft. We installed linux and forgot about this.

what if that central server computer was also where your vray liscence was installed. then you cant use linux

Windows doesn't erase all the DHCP IP numbers for a set amount of time. Days or maybe even 2 weeks? Don't know where to change this setting.

So if you have only 9 computers - but restart 2 - and they get assigned different (new) IP numbers.... you are hosed.

I used to run into this problem. It is very annoying. You have to shutdown and restart all the computers - or it will keep passing that "11th" IP number around the network.

Eventually I upgraded to fewer faster computers.

im upgrading to winxp64 soon i wonder how many connections that allows

ya i dont think you get more then the usual connections by using winxp 64. Its still just winxp pro

You can manually kill idle connections via

ControlPanel->Administrative Tools

In the treeview browse to

System Tools
->Shared Folders
->Sessions


You now see a list of computers connected to this machine and can terminate the connection. This doesnt help if you actually need more connections at once...but you dont have to restart all machines when reconnecting dhcp computers.
