  • Houdini hair pipeline

    Hello there,

    We are trying to transfer shaders between VRay for Houdini and VRay for 3ds Max in a way that allows us to edit them in 3ds Max.

    This can be helpful for our Grooming workflow :
    • Grooming and shading are done in Houdini
    • Lighting and rendering are done in 3ds Max
    • Hair shaders are exported as .vrscene files from Houdini and loaded in 3ds Max

    If we are able to edit shaders inside 3ds Max, we can avoid going back to Houdini for the edits and re-exporting as .vrscene to 3ds Max, also we can have direct results with 3ds Max’s lighting.

    Shaders coming from .vrscene files are in read-only mode in 3ds Max. Is there any way to recreate the shader’s material network inside 3ds Max ?

    As far as I know .vrscene files contain text describing the shader, does it have enough information to recreate the shaders network ?
