  • Delay at end of frame when calc'ing irr map

I have little experience with irr maps since I don't use GI often.

I'm doing a fly-thru and am pre-rending the irr map with multiframe incremental. I have "don't render final image" turned on. I noticed that at the very end of the 3rd (final) pre-pass on each frame it pauses for quite a while. Why is there this delay before the next frame starts.

Is it due to file-handling or the merging of the samples with the existing map?

Hi ... basically vray is saving the Irr map for that and every frame.. you can turn this option off.

Turn it off -- and then do a manual save at the end? Is that the idea?

When you have the "Auto-save" option on, V-Ray can do two things: either save the map at the end of each frame, or save the map only once at the end of the animation.

Originally, V-Ray saved the map only once, but bugs in 3dsmax made us introduce the option of saving at the end of each frame. You can turn this option off from the Irradiance map settings ("Save maps per frame").

        Best regards,
        Vlado
