  • Floating License : Can't Connect

Ok - this is pissing me off.
I have a new Dell that I am trying to hook up and render some animation on this weekend.

It won't get a hold of the Vray License server - even if we type in the exact IP number in the vray box. Keeps saying all licensed engaged - which they are not.

We have disabled all firewalls (windows & McAffee)....

Win XP SP2 (which hasn't been a problem on the other newer machines). I am guessing it is some pre-loaded BS? Oh this is XP Home (don't know why that would make a difference either?)

I hope somebody else has figured this out?

As far as I know, you need to obtain a new licence code from chaos, if you use your licence on a new computer.
    Just send them a mail.

Sometimes the license server seems to get clogged up with old connections, try restarting it, should fix it up.

Yeah... not working... I restarted the program and the server.

I assume it is some Dell crap that is preloaded on the machine. Hoping somebody else with a Dell knows.

I guess in the end it doesn't matter.... should still network render. It seems to register to the manager comptuer without any probs.

Does it manage to create a connection to the VRLServer - if you look at the VRLServer window, do you see the New connection/Close connection messages? If yes, then something (usually a firewall) terminates the connection right after it is made; if not - then there is some network probem.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

No - it doesn't connect to the VRLServer at all.

Yes - believe a network problem. All software firewalls have been shut down.... but sure there is some other Dell crap loaded that I can't find.

Also this is the same one that never did DR in my other posts.
I am very confused, however, about the one that was working and then didn't................

OH - I had similar problems with network like this the last time I had a machine with XP SP2! This is second machine on the network with SP2. And oddly enough - the machine that stopped working today - is the only other one with SP2. Could this be something?

....uh oh... "stopped today" machine had windows firewall turned on (somehow) - and i believe once that gets in the network - all machines get wacky..... I'll let you know if this solves all problems.

Ok - it was firewalls. Only had to tell it to shut off in 5 different places..... for others reading this:

Mcaffee Personal Firewall - you have to actually go into the utilties and adjust the firewall settings.

Working now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Ive had an ongoing problem trying to borrow the licence from work through vpn. the computer connects and drops off straight away. Gave up on trying to figure this out because I think it is the work firewall and I cant get them to change that just for me!. not really related, I just wanted to keep crying about this somewhere. damned firewalls *shakes fist*

would be nice to find a way around this though because im missing out on training time

                      glad you solved your problem
