  • Bake to Texture... Beauty Pass Map?

I've been working a lot with Bake to Texture and although we have a list of maps that make up an image that we can bake to there is no Beauty map, a map that just saves the completed render? The one in Common Maps isn't supported by VRay.

My current workflow is the render an AO map and save the image rendered in the Frame Buffer to get the Beauty pass.... but I can only do 1 at a time or I lose that image when the next one starts rendering.
Is there a way to render multiple meshes and save the Beauty pass in the Frame Buffer without having to render and save a bunch of maps/elements and have to rebuild the image after?

Either I've missed something or this is a bit of an oversite... seems strange that more people would want to load up all the meshes in a scene and bake them all at once and be able to save the main render.

Also, is there any chance the Denoiser will be set up to work with Bake to Texture too at some point?

Hi what if you use the VRayCompleteMap ? The Denoiser will work with Bake to Texture at some point. We have this request logged in already. I will add your thread to it and bump the priority.

Thanks for the reply... I had tried that one in the past and it was very dark. Tried it again now and turned Apply Color Mapping on in the Bake to Texture dialogue but it's still not the same as saving from the frame buffer. See attached...
I will add... I have the view port set to one of my camera views which seems to let it render the camera setting into the image...could this be the difference in the colour? The Complete map isn't adding the camera exposure etc to the image?

Yes probably the camera exposure is causing the difference. You can add exposure to your baked texture using the 3ds max's environment and effects dialog:

          Ah yes, perfect!
The other thing I noticed that was causing a difference in the output from the Frame Buffer and the Bake to Texture was that I had Filmic tone map, Curves and Lens Effects turned on in the frame buffer.... I hope that when the Denoiser is added to Bake to Texture, the other elements in the layer stack of the frame buffer will be added too?
