  • Vray Next RT animating material?

Hi I tried using Vray material switch its does not seem to work in RT, what is the best way to keyframe changing from one material to another? vray material blend having issue stacking blend material in blend material in rt though

edit - I have several Multi/Sub Materials, and within those Materials there IDs are VrayBlend Materials. Would need to key from one of these Multi/Sub Materials to the other.

What do you mean? VRaySwitchMtl works fine on GPU and IPR (tested with NEXT).

can i have a multisub object material that i switch in it? and those multisub object materials are blend materials as well. is that the problem?

Ah, refer to this thread for an answer. Note that the issue is on the GPU roadmap and will be prioritized soon enough.

i see that thread says that it does not support multi sub object material yet its rendering fine with multi sub object material, and also a blend material works, my issue is finding a way to switch the materials during animation.

The issue is that Multi/Sub-object nodes plugged in a VRayBlendMtl do not work on GPU. If that's not the case do attach a simple scene, illustrating the issue.

Thanks I sent you a link with a simple scene

I see you've encountered something else. It seems Multi/Sub-object nodes plugged in a VRaySwitchMtl do not work on GPU. I've logged the issue (internal bug-tracker id: VGPU-5942) for developer investigation. I'm unsure if there's an easy workaround for a material switcher, though.

thanks! i tried with new vray same thing, if could be so bold maybe we could get that in nightly build, I am using 4.3003, the version build 31579 for max 2022

The closest thing to a solution without changing much in your case seems to be to separate the objects using the "White Letter" shader since it is present in both multi/sub-obj nodes. Without it, you can directly plug the VRayBlendMtls (red and blue) to control the color, which is the only thing that needs changing anyway. If the letters need to change color you can drive that with a second VRaySwitchMtl.

thank you. I have 6 materials, I guess could make kind of a ladder of switches like that blending by alpha on each but its not gonna be fun. Is that kind of what you are saying?
