  • exclude a mesh or material from Bloom/Glare

Is there any way to exclude a mesh or material from Bloom/Glare? I'm trying to figure out if it's possible by compositing some kind of render element combination.
The aim is to get everything out in one render.

The way to do it is to make sure that the pixel value of anything that does not need glare/bloom to be below the threshold value.
With IPR it's pretty easy to tweak until you get what you want.

Hey. Thanks for the help the other day.

The trouble is that I have bright pixels on the object/material I'd like to remove the glare from. It's actually the background stars in space scenes, and the reason I'm trying to do it is exactly the same as the Saturn's rings post - I would like to streamline my renders and reduce the amount of rendering necessary by as much as possible. Usually I composite the glare in, but to do that I have to render out a completely new sequence with the objects not requiring glare hidden or turned into masks.

I have thoughts of doing something with object or material IDs, subtracting in post, but haven't tried anything yet.

        Glad it helped

With the stars it's the same thing...if they are e.g. 5 brightness max just put the threshold to above 5 and make sure everything else is above 5...should work fine.
I did it on a similar thing the other day I believe, where some atmosphere/ships needed extreme glare but the stars none.

Thanks. I should say, what I'm aiming for is more of a glow effect. I want glare/glow on things that are not as bright as the stars like a planet. Any threshold that catches the planet is going to also catch the stars. The scene I'm working on at the moment has particles that are about the same size as the larger stars but aren't as bright. Threshold won't work for me in this case either unfortunately.
