There's not toggle anywhere that I can check that will render passes only without having to wait for the rgb to render?

So Vray 6 can't render passes only?

Hi it is not possible to render passes or render elements without rendering the RGB.
You could figure out some workarounds for instance if you need to render only masks you can add MultiMatteElement, disable the lighting and apply override material (clay) so this way you will speed up the rendering a greatly.

Somehow, though, it feels like you're referring to the capabilities of some other software.
If that's the case, which one, exactly?
On the passes in our case: shading-related passes will need the RGB to be able to adapt properly (efficiently so. adapting per element can be done but it's expensive.).
Data passes can be rendered in a number of ways without having to wait for a shaded RGB to complete (as mentioned by Vladimir, toggles and overrides help. Along with fixed sampling.), and they are generally very quick.

Ah, Corona does it!
Thank you i had no idea.
I assume you refer to the "render only masks" toggle, and if that is the case yeah, just turning off the lights should be roughly equivalent to that.
Remember to switch to fixed sampling, however, as no adaptation will take place, and the render will stop at 1 spp.Lele

Ok...This is getting a little frustrating...So the workaround mentioned worked to generate the obj id pass. Fast. But even with color (AA) mode the edges are pixelated...which means my selections will be also. Another thing. The same camera in Vray doesn't match my Vantage camera even thought it's all the same aspect ratio.

That looks like poor sampling: you'll need a fixed AA of at least 4 subdivs to have it clean up properly (provided it's set to Color with AA in the RE).
Ideally, switch to the Bucket sampler too.
On the Vantage issue: how do you make Max and Vantage talk? Live link?
Ensure you don't have distortion on the Max camera, regardless of how you manage the link, as that's not supported.Last edited by ^Lele^; 30-08-2022, 12:05 PM.Lele

Well, i had mentioned the fixed sampling twice, if in passing. :P
This is the page listing all that's supported, fully, partially and not at all.
Feel free to peruse the hidden menu on the right side of the page.
