  • Question: Why does Vray do a double pass?

Some explanation would be highly appreciated: I am trying to get out a bunch of quick previews. Vray is rendering in 2 passes - even in progressive mode with BR/BR. What is the first pass for? Is there a way to turn it off?

    Thanks in advance!

Maybe Photon Map Caustics are active?

Just checked - good idea, but no. It seems to only happen in GPU-Mode.

Basically it looks like it's going to render but then starts over after a few passes.

that might have to do with the embeded passes, the embeded passes don't show up as quickly as the RGB pass does. Just a guess.

Is there anything in the log that might indicate the nature of the pass?

Maybe the ancient reflection glossiness interpolation imported from a very old material?

I think you are talking about the first 32 passes that vray do in order to perpare the adaprive lighting iirc . after that vray will start again from 0 but usually the render is faster now .

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Thanks for the answers. M.Max I think that must be it, because I did not have any other prepasses. Good to know! Thanks!

Indeed, it's the preparation of adaptive lights, the log will say so as the render progresses.
