  • VRAY Sun Light, White Viewport Background

    Hey everyone,

When I drop in the VRAY sun the entire viewport goes white and it is very difficult to work with. How to I change it's colour?

In your viewport(s) on the top left there is a [+] symbol. Click that > Configure Viewports > Background. Then set it to whatever you want.

      Alt+B is the hotkey also.
I'm pretty sure this is new behaviour with Vray 6....might be wrong but I don't remember
it occurring before, at least not in any other viewports than pers/camera.

VRaySun, similar to the real sun, is extremely bright. Since the viewport drawing is not affected by exposure controls (not sure if it's possible to do this), it's expected to be like that. Lowering the Sun's brightness would affect the viewport though.

EDIT: Okay, correction. Exposure control should work (and it does with some integrated controls) when High-Quality preview is active. However, the V-Ray one doesn't due to an Autodesk change and we have not yet received an adequate answer as to how to resolve it. I'll mention the issue to the devs so that we can try again.

It does occur to me that I noticed only recently, so probably with Max 23. I honestly can't remember it occurring with previous versions but in any case I can't check, as I had to wipe my pc and start afresh after a recent calamity

It's good for HDRI image background , but the sun is too bright for the viewport without exposure control .

If you set the Intensity multiplier to 0.01~0.03 , I think it looks good, but dont forget restore that value to 1.0 before you render XD
