Well with the new Vray for Maya, you may not need to worry about that. I have to say, Both Maya 7 and Max 8 seem great.

well I was trying Maya but I guess I will never get it's "shader editor" many, many settings for every single thing, missing renderable lines thing (try to make huge amount of railings with maya . I'm really looking forward to see max 8 and I'm hoping for some tiny viewport speed improvements. Maybe Autodesk will surprise us. Well it's good to have hope right? After reading a lot on forums how people are dissapointed with max 8 announcement I'm a bit afriad that soon many studios decide to leave max and if I don't start to learn Maya there won't be any place for me to work anymore. Believe me it really makes me having nightmares when I sleep.

Ok. This is something I don't understand. Why are people slagging Max 8 before they have even seen it or better yet used it? I mean you can hardly put much faith in a press release. It's a piece of paper or a webpage! Like others have said, many enhancements are under the hood and not "in you face" like PFlow or adding Character Studio ect. If 8 is better in usability and more stable and faster, that sounds awesome to me. What about pelt mapping or whatever it is called. That sounds cool and very useful. Anyway I just don't understand how people can make such statements. It is kind of looking at the spec sheet of a car and then saying, "That car sucks!", without ever test driving the car.

              Rant over!

                tssss

Work work work.... to buy, buy and buy again this is not my point of view....

It s so funny to see how some people react to advertisements :

simply increase a number by one and they will need it this new soft even if they only know 25% of the previous version....

I m not a MAX expert (even if I use it since the DOS version....) but I m not a noob with MAX.

I have seen big features jump between 4 and 5 less between 5 and 6, near only bug corection between 6 and 7, and I prefer not speaking about this "new" 8 version...

@RPC212 : your post has nothing to do with the thread subject. If you want to convice guys to upgrade then post yours messages in the "take 5" topics...

n6 I'm not trying to convince anyone to do anything! I agree with what you said, however using something and giving an opinion versus bashing on something without even using it seems a bit premature. I was simply replying to what lukx said

although i don't really really really need the latest vray, it would be nice to be able to install viz 2006 that we've had sitting on our shelf gathering dust for a few months...

Yep, working on that, as I said earlier... we talked to some guys at Autodesk at Siggraph, so we are finally getting a copy of Viz2006 to test with here.

                            Best regards,
