Here's a video recording of me doing these steps with an image completely with alpha (VraySky), going from Max 2022 - Vray 6 to Slack. CLICK

I use the dark theme on Slack. I wonder if that matters.

Top is RGB, Middle is the Alpha. Bottom is what I get in Slack when "Copy Current Channel to Clipboard" is pasted.
You can see Slack even calls it image.png, as it reads the data as a PNG, including the alpha.
When I paste the same buffer into Photoshop the alpha is ignored completely (it does not become transparency or anything).
Ideally we would be able to copy with or without the alpha so that we could choose to keep the alpha and paste (even into Photoshop-- as layer transparency, like a PNG does). But I usually want to disable the alpha for Slack, as it knocks it out and ruins the image.
FYI: Disabling the Filmic Tone Map has no effect.

Is this a new behavior in Vray 6? In Vray 5 for Maya it works the way you're requesting....I get a solid image copied, with no alpha, as if it were a jpg being copy - pasted, no matter where I paste it, Slack included....
and to add, I hope it stays this way, or can be reverted to if this is the new behavior in Vray 6. I do get why it would be useful to copy - paste an image with an alpha, but I also very much need the option to copy - paste a solid image also.

Black RGB, an alpha.

Huh. Well the data is getting onto the clipboard somehow. I wonder what we are doing differently. I've been having this issue with multiple versions of VRay6 (since before hotfix 2 at a minimum, and up until a stable from a few days ago). And Vray has been reinstalled multiple times (at least re-installed with new versions).
IN case I didn't mention.. Windows 10 Pro Max 2021Last edited by Joelaff; 13-12-2022, 02:52 PM.

There must be indeed something in the code that considers the alpha. As Joelaff experiences with pasting into Slack, and as I sometimes notice when pasting into photoshop (after some back and forward copy-paste between photoshop and VFB).Last edited by Vizioen; 17-12-2022, 04:45 AM.

OK. I figured out why you guys are not seeing the issue... Because I am using the One True Browser (Firefox). It does not paste the alpha in Edge. I refuse to use Google's turd-child (but Edge uses Chrome's rendering engine).
So please try it out in the OTB, and you can see the issue for debugging. Thanks.
Though Edge and Chrome may ignore the alpha data, it is clearly on the clipboard, or Firefox would not be able to read it.
