  • vrmesh animating the speed of the animation

Is there a way to animated the speed of a vrayproxy mesh? So that I can go from normal speed to double speed. I thought i could just animated the speed spinner from 1 to 2, but apparently that is not possible. Am I missing something?

HI, thanks for posting. Do you want to animate this parameter?

What do you want to achieve, could you give us a bit more details about your project?

Hi it is not a good idea to be able to animate the speed. For instance say you have 100 positions and speed 0.5 so at frame 50 you are at position 25
At frame 51 if the speed becomes 2.0 - what will be the next position? 26 or 100?
You can however animate the frames offset. If you set the speed to 0 and animate the offset it might work.

In this test I have the same proxy copied. The one on the left has animated frames offset so at frame 12 it is showing frame 5 and by the end of the timeline it will show frame 20 as the other one.

Here are they at frame 5:

Thanks for the description. I have an animation of some birds taking off. Where the original animation is too slow when they fly so i had to increase the speed 4 times. BUT when they are sitting they look back and forth and with x4 times the speed it looks ridiculus. I wanted to have the original speed when they are sitting but when they take off I want to increase the speed to 4 times. Is there another way to retime the proxy animations?

How about the one I described in my previous post? Won't it work for your case? If you wish you could send the scene so I can give it a try myself. Post it here or use the support contact form.

The workaround is valid, but the lack of keyframability for the speed Parameter looks much like an oversight, as that works just fine in Maya.
I've asked the right dev, i'll update here as i know more, possibly into next week as all holidays dry up.

EDIT: a word of warning: slowing the playback will produce unintended results, regardless. Speeding up will work slightly better.
The suggested workaround is still the best way to get it done.

I've gotten answers back: the speed slider is intended to be non-animatable currently, as it's not clear where to integrate from as the speed changes.
I've made proposals for changes, but assume it'll stay this way for the foreseeable future.
In Maya, too, even when animated, the results are not what one would expect coming, f.e., from video.
