  • lets see vray 1.5

    Vlado,

I wasn't able to go to siggraph this year so I missed seeing what's in store for 1.5.

Could you post some imagery showing things like the fast sss shader, the ao shader and the new camera?

    thanks,

    V Miller

You know, I've seen Vray go from 1.09 to the current beta. I have to say, I think 1.5 is done now. Call an end to it now Vlado. You are already above and beyond what other software vendors have done before releases. Besides, you've already said the feature set was locked down a while ago. All this now stuff should go into a 1.6 or 2.0.

      I think 1.5 is done!

So is 1.5 going to be an extra upgrade $$ for people who have purchased say in the last year?? I am assuming so, but it is a little different than other Autodesk upgrades as you have been able to upload incremental updates for free up to what 1.47. something now??

          Regards Peter.

I for one would be glad to pay an upgrade fee for stable, released version newer than 1.09.

I am still using 1.09, having been bitten 3 times by show stopping bugs each time I tried to jump onto the moving target that is Vray. Given that I have clients that have deadlines, I have to stick to something reliable, and only upgrade once a year or so. I have had a play with 1.47.03, and it looks pretty amazing, and I too read all the promises to not add more features and ship a damn product, but here we go again.

1.1 never shipped. 1.5 looked like it was going to, but surprise surprise, more features are coming. Which means forget 2005 for a stable version.

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of things about Vray and I think Vlado and the team are great, great people. But they have made some very poor promises and decisions, and they have an absolutely pathological inability to stop tinkering and ship a product.

I for one will start to look at alternatives, which sucks because VRAY is so close to being everything that I want. But you can't rely on the people who make it.

Vlado, I'm beggin ya, prove me wrong, real soon.

well ill be surprised if we dont get the 1.5 version or whatever version they are finalizing before the end of the year. Of course ive been surprised before... Oh and I dont know if you do animations, but for interior arch vis animations, what other choices are there really?

I think we are fortunate to have a company that is so conscientious and makes a pretty good attempt to satisfy its customers. They work very hard and I appreciate their efforts. Even if a bug or two will exist when 1.5 comes out, it's going to be alot stabler than the versions prior to 1.47. They may have missed some deadlines but at least they didn't release something official that was shit. Plus, 1.5 will have some sweet new features that should enhance your productivity.

Well I guess it is all in your outlook, here we render several thousands of frames every month with 1.47,for us it is stable enough.

As long as you know what to avoid then vray is very strong and stable.. that goes without saying.

                              Licensing system

I was talking to somebody a the Vray stand at Siggraph and was told about 2 months for the release of 1.5 The was also told that the hold up was the new licensing system that would allow a Vray license to be floated across a network - I think you can do that with 1.47 ?

Two months would place the release around the time 3ds 8 is scheduled to drop. Funny that they show off Maya 7 at Siggraph the same time as 3ds 8 and you can download Maya 7 the next day. It seems to be a theme with 3ds that you hear about a release and need to wait and wait to actually get your hands on it.
