  • Logical Processors

I haven't used buckets in a year, but I want to test something. I have 8 cores, 16 logical processors. Shoudn't I have 16 buckets? I remmeber on my 64 core computer I had to do something to get 128 buckets.

Yes. Maybe you have the NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS environment variable set?

You may want to check if the motherboard can turn off multithreading, in which case only the physical cores would show up as threads.

Yeah, multi-threading is turned off in BIOS most likely
This doesn't reduce performance by half, depending on the scene it could be from 5% to 20%

So, I want multithreading off? Right now it is on.

Ah, bummer, that was my only idea (that it was off instead of how it should have been, on.).
Have you checked Alex's suggestion with the Environment variable?
I can't imagine why you'd set it specifically to 8, but it's worth a try.

Does the windows task manager show 16 logical processors, or 8? If it's 8 it's a windows or hardware problem but if it's 16 and you still have 8 buckets it's probably a vray problem.

I don't have any ideas beyond what others have mentioned but when you are rendering with the 8 buckets is it showing only 50% cpu usage in task manager? When you render with progressive is it using 100%? 50%?

this is interesting, do you have screen shot of both task manager and frame buffer while its rendering at the same time?

Are you using a process manager for instance like Lasso?
                        A.

I'll dig deaper when I have time. I don't use bucket renderings, so right now it isn't a huge deal.

                              Hey!

                              Any progress with this issue?
We also noticed with a few files that half of the cores are just not showing up on frame buffer and they are idle but visible in task manager. It happens with 32/16 core CPUs as far as I can tell.
