  • Hair and Fur quantity vs render time

Does the number of hair and fur objects matter vs the number of hairs in relation to render times. For example 10 hair and fur objects with 20 hairs in each vs 1 hair and fur object with 200 hairs. Would they take the same amount of time to render or would the one with 10 objects take longer?

Hi, thanks for posting. Are you referring to VRayFur or to 3ds Max's Hair and Fur modifier?

Hi, if you have a model that consists of few parts that need hair on them and you are wondering if there will be any difference if you attach them before applying the hair and fur there will be no significant difference in render time.

I actually made a quick test with Hair and Fur:

this is one patch of hair (render time is in the lower left corner)

this is with 4 patches with 4 times lower hair count

The render time is 26 second for the one and 25.7 seconds for the other.

Hi Thanks for the response. I was wondering not about the number of hair systems instead of merging the patches. I am not a native max and was told the render times are longer so I was wondering off hand if anyone knew the answer.
