the very last segment of that video was the most interesting, about clicking where you want the reflections to go. That would be *very* very handy when tweaking studio light setups for vehicles or other studio objects that have reflections

wow...now that would be great to have in vray.
Wonder if it is related to Paul Debrevec's Reflectance Field research?

Instead of using a Light Stage rig to capture the required data, the channels are being generated from the 3D scene.

      Looks like exciting times ahead.

            ummmmmmmmmmmm...yeah.
No need to wait for VRay2.0. Has been available since 3dsmax 1.0, I think.

hm, I didn't know that, checking it out right now.

(edit) wow, works pretty good, even with VRay lights. learn something new everyday

i've used place highlight for a while now with reflection cards parented to the lights so I get a good idea of where things need to be to show up in a reflection from certain camera angles.

                      hi vance,
just wondering why you are parenting the bounce cards to lights?
couldn't you just use one or the other, and not both?

I've done that in order to have the reflector card travel with the light when using the place highlight tool. Most of the time when I'm lighting stuff I use standard max lights with vray shadows because I find the viewport feedback to be a little more accurate to how the light will behave in rendering then using vray lights. Plus you have a visual refernce of the falloff which is something I'd like to see added to vray lights. I usually don't use the specular component of the light instead using a refector card to mimic the source and use that for my specular(reflection)
