  • Question: What happened to 'Use Camera Path'?

Hi There, this is mostly a question for Vlado and the developers: Whatever happened to the option under the Light Cache settings to 'Use Camera Path' (I think that's what it was called), so that you could pre-render a Light Cache for an entire animated camera, save it to disk, and call it back for later rendering? I remember it from V-Ray Next, or maybe version 5, but recently it seems to have disappeared from the GI -> Light Cache tab.
Is the current workflow to simply render a Light Cache for every frame? If so that seems like a step back in efficiency, as it really adds to render time. Or is there something obvious that I'm missing?

Hi, thanks for posting. Here is a very similar thread - https://forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray...y-through-mode
Please have a look at it.

Thank-you Vladimir. If I'm understanding that thread correctly, then it means there is no way to avoid rendering the Light Cache for every single frame when using an animated camera. That's a real shame as the old fly-through system meant you only had to render it once, thus saving 2 or 3 minutes per frame

The time you saved there will more than be made back up by the per frame LC.
While the name is still "Light Cache" as the one of many years ago when such options made sense, its functionalities have changed greatly and it will now accelerate final-frame rendering in a number of ways, sadly incompatible with the camera-path option.
