  • problem with rendering the face normals

Hi there, im trying to follow this tutorial in blender. https://youtu.be/DEgzuMmJtu8
Where the technique is to transfer the normals from one object to another. In the viewport it works but when I render it doesnt. Its like vray cannot render the normals. The script I used for transferring the normals is this one http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/sc...s-normal-thief

    what could be the problem?
(left is the render, right is the viewport)

    thank you in advanced

It works for me, just don't use omnidirectional lighting (i.e.: add a normal light with a source and size.).

      With an arealight:

      With a domelight.

          Thanks for the file!
In your case, the normals on the mesh are really strange, as they all point along one axis only (see attached)
The base mesh, here, without any normal modifier on top. The black shading is because the normals are flipped compared to the view.

Adding an edit normals shows the issue.

Select all the normals (it's a sub-object of the nbormal modifier) and click "break" to get to a faceted result:

or select "Unify" to smooth them.

Please let me know if i have misunderstood the goal.
