Question for you brainiacs. I use the PSD Manager to mask all my layers for post-production. I just spent a ton of time on a site, with Forest Pack Pro, and I used IDs to apply the FPP. So, my grass, mulch, and gravel is all one nice and clean poly. PSD Manager will make one mask, but I want my grass to have its own mask. The question is, is there a way to use a multi matte with material ids?

Of course. There is a checkbox for that in the MMRE. Has been there for more than a decade.

Hi, here is the documentation page that explains this - https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAX/...ent-Parameters

Are you trying to get a MultiMaskElement of the each of the different forestpack pro items that are distributed using a MatID map under the Distibution-->Diversity-->"Match Color ID on Map"? If so, the distributed plants won't automatically take on the MatIDs of the underlying map. Are you trying to do this or something else? You'll need to assign a MatID to each plant material and then a corresponding MME.

Usually, I select all the grass and I use a different Object ID. I can detached everything and do it how I usually do it, but I thought I would try and keep everything together.

I still don't really get what you're trying to do.

Okay, I have a site plan with roads, sidewalks, and grass. I use shapemerge to carve out things with splines. I have been detaching after the shapemerge, and changing the object id, so I can use multimatte. I want to skip the detach step and still get my masks.

You mention "changing the Object ID" but I'm assuming you mean Material ID since I don't think you can assign a different object IDs to different polygons without detaching. In that case why not just have multiple MMEs, one for the road and sidewalks using Materials IDs, and another for the grass using Object ID's since it's already a separate object. I think I'm still missing something otherwise.

When you render out the grass and gravel it's covering any material ids from the underlying surface so you won't see any of them if that's what you're expecting. That material ID of the plane does not transfer over to the FP grass. I still don't see why you can't just use the regular object ID on each FP object. If it's one FP object that has all of the gravel/grass/bushes you'll have to assign a mat id in the material editor to each of the distributed geometry then these will carry over into the MME.

Material ID is used for surfaces and object ID for models since a model has tens of different materials and if you want a single mask you'll need to go through each one and set the same material ID.
                        You could also use Cryptomatte.

                          Bobby,

Is this what you want? You don't need MatID. All depends on how you apply Obj IDs

ID:	1180312 I'll have to work on a test scene to get this working. Thanks!

I am currently working on a project, and all the drawings are hand drawn, without a site plan. The client said that the site is flat. The site is nothing but NOT flat! I want to keep this whole site intact and have masks to work in post-production. On this project, the only hint of elevations is steps, which I didn't get a sketch for until much later. The poor lady (10 million dollar house) doesn't have the funds to pay more, so I am hoping it turns out so good I get work from it. If not, I am eating this one.
