  • Using VrayMtl or Standard for non-reflection non-refractive

This is probably been asked umpteen times, but I don't know how easily I could find an answer.

If I have a material -- say grass or sand, that has no reflective or refractive or glossy properties to speak of, is there much advantage to using a vraymat over standard?

And if there is an advantage, is it only realized when GI is turned on?

ive found theres ALWAYS an advantage using vraymat over standard. just try a simple scene and switch between the two mats on everything. No GI, textures or anything needed, you should see a render time difference, and the vraymat should be the faster render.

ok -- that's cool. I just wanted to know since I have so many materials that have never been converted to Vray.

      Thanks.
